Kursk Root Icon Front View

You can see the stone slate used on the fountain. . Korennaya means root in Russian and the icon was found in 1295 by a hunter. As he lifted up the icon he found laying face down in the roots of a tree a fresh flowing spring of water started flowing. The fair was one of the largest in all Russia. The photo on the sign shows how it looked here in the height of the fair years. See: Korennaya Fair Page for more info..
